Note: For a couple of years, I was also known as Mike@Gibson.com to a lot of folks around the world. I worked there doing marketing, promotions, working with artists, advertising and ultimately the early development of their incredible web site. I put this online event together with Jorma and Jack around the end of 1994. At the time, neither of them were using computers. Jorma had to drive from his ranch near Athens, OH to CompuServe's headquarters in Columbus, OH to participate and we had to send a volunteer to Jack's house with a laptop for him. These days they're both plugged in, modem and all and sprouting little propellers on their heads!
This online interview was the last we did on CompuServe and the beginning of the end of our desire to be in the restrictive, often repressive online environment they offered. If you look at the date below, you'll see that it was just a very short time after the Mozilla browser came
into being and the World Wide Web was ready to take off. Looking back over the transcripts, it all seems so primitive. Even more amazing is how simple it is to incorporate this type of service into anyone's web site. The World Wide Web truly became the great liberator for those of us with the desire to communicate with the world without the shackles of the company who owned the network. Viva la internet!
Gibson Virtual Guitar Clinic with Hot Tuna and Special Guest Robbie Krieger (The Doors)
This took place on Tuesday, January 31st, 1995 and featured two of the legends of the San Francisco Psychedelic Rock Scene, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, two of the founding members of the Jefferson Airplane and the famous off-shoot band Hot Tuna. Later in the conference, Jorma and Jack were joined by Robby Krieger of The Doors. Robby was brought into the live conference courtesy of Guitar World Magazine.
